The Ridgeland Athletics Hall of Fame proudly welcomes Jacob Mariakis, a name synonymous with wrestling excellence at Ridgeland High School. A graduate of the class of 2019, Jacob stands as the most decorated wrestler in the school's esteemed history.

During his remarkable high school career, Jacob achieved the extraordinary feat of being a four-time state finalist, ultimately claiming the coveted state championship title three times. His dominance on the mat is further underscored by his exceptional scholastic record of 152 wins against a mere 5 losses, with four of those losses occurring during his freshman year.

Jacob's prowess extended beyond the state level. He earned national recognition as a National High School Coaches Association All-American and a Flo Nationals All-American, solidifying his place among the nation's elite high school wrestlers. He was also a multiple-time selection as a member of the Georgia National USA Wrestling team.

Beyond his individual achievements, Jacob was a pivotal force in elevating the Ridgeland High School wrestling program. His leadership and talent were instrumental in guiding the team to its first-ever qualifications for the state duals, a testament to his impact on the program's trajectory.

Jacob, the 2019 Vonn Bell Award winner, continued his wrestling journey at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His decision to compete for the Mocs came after thoughtfully considering offers from prestigious institutions such as NC State, Cornell, and Stanford, highlighting the high regard in which he was held within the collegiate wrestling community.

Upon graduating from UTC, Jacob has returned to his roots, dedicating himself to education in Walker County. His passion for wrestling and his commitment to his alma mater have now brought him back to Ridgeland High School, where he currently serves as the head boys wrestling coach, inspiring a new generation of Panther wrestlers.

For his unparalleled achievements, his dedication to Ridgeland High School, and his continued commitment to its wrestling program, Jacob Mariakis is a most deserving inductee into the Ridgeland Athletics Hall of Fame.
